Punctuation commands (English)
Say «period», «comma», «question mark», «exclamation point», or «new line» as you dictate — most browsers insert the punctuation mark instead of the words. Recognition of these commands varies by browser and can be inconsistent mid-sentence; if a command gets transcribed as a literal word, just edit it out afterwards.
If dictation stops or mishears
Background noise, a quiet voice, or a long pause can cut off recognition early — press Start again to resume; nothing you already dictated is lost. If a word or phrase is consistently mistranscribed, editing it directly is faster than repeating it. On a browser without built-in recognition (Firefox), the server-dictation fallback appears automatically — record a short clip, it's converted once and discarded, never stored.
Finishing up
Once your words are in the editor, edit directly for anything misheard, then Copy the result or send it straight to the Grammar Checker or Word Counter with one tap — no re-typing needed.
Is my voice recorded or uploaded to your servers?
In browsers with built-in speech recognition (Chrome, Edge, Safari) we never receive your audio or your text — dictation runs through your browser's own speech service and the words go straight into the editor on your device. In browsers without it (like Firefox) you can use server dictation instead: the recording is sent once to our AI provider, converted to text, and immediately discarded. We never store audio or transcripts either way — only anonymous usage counts.
Which browsers support voice typing?
Chrome, Edge and Safari support the Web Speech API. Firefox currently doesn't — the Start button only appears when your browser supports dictation.
Which languages can I dictate in?
Pick from 38 languages in the selector above — including English, Spanish, Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese and Hindi. Accuracy depends on your browser's recognition engine.
How do I add punctuation?
Say punctuation names in most languages — "period", "comma", "question mark" in English. Support varies by browser and language; you can always edit the text afterwards.
Can I count the words I dictated or fix the grammar?
Yes — the counters update live as you speak, and the Send to links below the editor pass your text to the grammar checker or word counter with one tap.
What if dictation stops partway through?
Press Start again to resume — nothing you already dictated is lost. Background noise or a long pause is the most common cause; a quieter environment or speaking a bit closer to the microphone usually helps.
