How it works (and its limits)
Each letter is mapped to the matching character in Unicode's Mathematical Italic or Bold alphabets — the same characters used in mathematical notation. Because they're ordinary Unicode, the style is part of the text itself and survives copy-paste into any app.
Only the basic Latin alphabet has these counterparts (plus digits for bold). Punctuation, accented letters and other scripts pass through unchanged. One quirk: italic h is the Planck-constant symbol ℎ — that's the character Unicode provides.
Screen readers may announce these as "mathematical italic" letters or spell them out, so keep styled text decorative — don't use it for essential information.

What actually converts — and what stays plain
Each style is a real Unicode character swap (a bold letter is a DIFFERENT character, not a font), so coverage varies by style: bold covers letters AND digits (0-9), while italic and cursive cover only letters — numbers, punctuation and most symbols pass through unchanged in those styles. The live coverage line above the output («N of M converted») reflects this exactly for whatever you typed, not a fixed promise — paste a sentence with digits into italic to see the difference from bold.
Where these characters paste — and where they might not
These are standard Unicode code points, so they paste correctly almost anywhere text is plain Unicode (most social bios, chat apps, documents). They can render as boxes/tofu on very old systems or fonts missing the specific block, and some platforms strip or normalize unusual Unicode in specific fields (e.g. a username). There is no guarantee of acceptance on any third-party platform — test on your target platform before relying on it for something important.
Accessibility: what a screen reader hears
Styled Unicode characters are NOT the same as bold/italic HTML — a screen reader may read them as individual math symbols, spell them out letter by letter, or skip them, depending on the reader and font. If your primary goal is accessible emphasis (not decorative flair), use real bold/italic formatting in the app you're posting to instead; keep this tool for visual styling where plain-text accessibility isn't the priority.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion is a simple character mapping that runs entirely in your browser — nothing is sent to a server, stored, or logged.
How can I use italics where formatting isn't supported?
These aren't formatting — each letter is a distinct Unicode character that happens to look italic or bold. Convert, copy, and paste into bios, usernames, comments: the style travels with the text.
Why don't accented letters change?
Unicode's mathematical alphabets cover the basic Latin letters a–z and A–Z only (plus digits for bold). Accented characters, punctuation and other scripts have no italic counterpart, so they pass through unchanged.
Will it work in every app?
Anywhere Unicode text renders: Instagram, X, WhatsApp, Discord, TikTok, YouTube comments. A few very old systems may show boxes for missing glyphs — and search within an app may not match styled text against the normal spelling.
