The modes, side by side
What paraphrasing is — and isn't
Paraphrasing restates the same meaning in different words: different vocabulary, different sentence shapes, same facts and intent. It is NOT a way to make copied text yours — reworded ideas still need a citation — and it's not a magic «undetectable» button. Use it to improve your own drafts, adapt tone, or simplify.
Which mode for which job
Standard for a general reword; Formal for applications and business email; Simple for plain-language rewrites of dense text; Shorter to trim padding while keeping the point; Longer to unpack a terse note; Natural and Creative vary the voice. When unsure, run Standard first and compare.
Review before you use it
1. Run the paraphrase. 2. Compare the result against your original — the meaning-confidence badge flags rewrites worth re-reading, and names, numbers and negations deserve a manual check. 3. Copy — or re-run in another mode. Your text is processed for the rewrite and never stored.
Attribution and plagiarism
If the ideas came from a source, a paraphrase still requires citing that source — changing the words does not change whose idea it is. For graded or published work, follow your style guide's paraphrase rules (cite, and don't shadow the original's structure too closely).
Free, without an account
Every visitor gets a generous number of free checks per day — no signup, no ads. Unlike the counters on this site (which run entirely in your browser), this tool sends your text to an AI model for processing. It is processed and immediately discarded: never stored, never logged, never used for training.
Is paraphrased text plagiarism-free?
Paraphrasing restates ideas in new words, but the ideas still need attribution. Use it to improve clarity and vary phrasing — cite your sources as you normally would.
Is my text stored anywhere?
No. Text is processed by the AI model and the result returned — never stored, never logged, never used for training.
What's the difference between the modes?
Standard balances fidelity and fluency. Formal tightens tone for professional writing. Simple shortens sentences and swaps hard words. Creative rephrases most freely while keeping the meaning.
What does the “Meaning kept” score mean?
After each result, a second AI check compares your original with the output and shows a confidence band: High confidence, Review changes, or Meaning may have changed. It's a model estimate, not a guarantee — whatever the band says, re-read anything important and check names, numbers and negations yourself. The raw judge score appears as secondary detail in the “Why?” explanation, labeled as an estimate. Like the main tool, this check processes your text and immediately discards it; only the score is kept.
Is this a free paraphrasing tool?
Yes — completely free, with no account, no word-count paywall, and no watermarks. There’s a fair-use daily cap to keep it free for everyone, and every result includes the “Meaning kept” score at no charge.
Is a paragraph rewriter different from a paraphrasing tool?
No — «paragraph rewriter», «rewording tool», and «paraphrasing tool» are different names for the same job this page does: rewrite text in new words while keeping the meaning. Paste a sentence or a whole paragraph, pick a mode (Standard for a plain rewrite, Formal/Simple/Shorten and others for a direction), and review the result — the original stays visible so you can compare, and the meaning-confidence band is an estimate, not a guarantee.
