What changes when English becomes Norwegian
The verb comes second
In a Norwegian main clause, the verb usually takes second place. When a sentence starts with a time or place, the subject moves after the verb: “Tomorrow we travel to Bergen” becomes “I morgen reiser vi til Bergen”.
Language names and weekdays are lowercase
Norwegian writes names of languages, nationalities, weekdays and months in lowercase: engelsk, norsk, mandag, januar. A school task to translate engelsk-norsk therefore has no capitals in those words, while English capitalizes English, Monday and January.
Two written standards
Norsk covers two official written standards, Bokmål and Nynorsk, so English to norsk can mean either one. Most everyday texts use Bokmål. If your text is for a Nynorsk setting, check forms such as “ikkje” and “eg” (Bokmål “ikke” and “jeg”).
Du for almost everyone
Norwegian uses du for nearly everyone, including managers and customers. The old polite De is rare and can sound stiff. A formal tone is shown mainly through word choice and sentence structure, not through the pronoun.

Why are some Norwegian words so long?
Norwegian joins nouns into one word where English often keeps them apart, so “customer service” becomes “kundeservice”. Splitting such words in Norwegian can change or blur the meaning, so check compounds when you review the translation.
Will the Norwegian be Bokmål or Nynorsk?
Most Norwegian texts are written in Bokmål, and that is what everyday readers expect. If you need Nynorsk, for example for some schools or local councils, review the word forms carefully before you use the text.
How do I choose between formal and casual Norwegian?
