What changes when Chinese becomes Vietnamese
Characters in, Latin letters out
Chinese is written in characters with no spaces between words. Vietnamese uses a Latin-based alphabet, chữ Quốc ngữ, whose diacritics mark the six tones of the northern standard, with a space after each syllable. Many Vietnamese words come from Chinese, so pairs like 学生 (xuéshēng) and học sinh, or 国家 (guójiā) and quốc gia, often line up closely.
Modifiers switch sides
Chinese usually puts descriptions before the noun: 红色的车 (hóngsè de chē), a red car. Vietnamese usually puts them after: xe màu đỏ, where xe means car, màu means color and đỏ means red. Possession flips too: 我的朋友 becomes bạn của tôi.
One “you”, many Vietnamese pronouns
Chinese gets by with 你 (nǐ) or the polite 您 (nín). Vietnamese usually picks a pronoun based on age and relationship, such as anh, chị, em, cô, chú or bạn. A short message rarely shows who is talking to whom, so check the pronouns. The “Formal (business email)” tone helps with polite wording.
Classifiers on both sides
Both languages count nouns with classifiers, but the words differ: 一本书 is một quyển sách, and 一只猫 is một con mèo. Expect the classifier to change rather than carry over directly.
How do I translate Chinese to Vietnamese here?
Paste or type your Chinese text, or use “Dictate” to speak it. Vietnamese is already set as the target. Choose a “Tone” if you like, then translate, and read, copy or save the result.
Why does 你 sometimes become anh, chị or em in Vietnamese?
Vietnamese pronouns usually reflect age and relationship, while Chinese 你 does not. The translation has to pick one, so check that it suits the person you are writing to and adjust it if needed.
How much text can I translate at once, and can I open a document?
Each run takes up to 5,000 characters, so split longer texts into parts. You can open a DOCX, ODT, RTF or TXT file and the text is placed in the editor, but the formatting is not kept. PDFs are not supported; photos and screenshots go through the «Photo / screenshot» button, and the image is sent for reading and not stored.
Is it safe to paste supplier contracts or private chat messages?
Your text is sent to an AI model, translated, returned and then discarded. It is not stored and not used for training.
Can I see the pinyin for the Chinese text?
Yes. Click “Show pronunciation” to see an approximate pinyin romanization of the Chinese under the result. It helps with reading, but it is not a full pronunciation guide.
Does it understand Traditional Chinese characters?
Yes, you can paste Traditional Chinese and it will be understood. A small note tells you whether the pasted text looks Simplified or Traditional. There is no option to choose between them, and Chinese output is in Simplified characters.
Can I translate Vietnamese back into Chinese?
Yes. Click “Swap languages” to reverse the direction and keep your text. The “Show pronunciation” button then gives pinyin for the Chinese result.
Can I translate a photo of a Chinese menu or sign?
Yes, use the "Photo / screenshot" button next to Translate. The image is sent to be read and is not stored. You can also type the characters, dictate them, or open a text file instead.
How can I tell whether the Vietnamese kept the meaning?
After each translation, a second AI check compares both texts and shows a confidence band next to “Meaning kept:”. It is an estimate, so still check names, numbers and negations yourself.
