What changes when Persian becomes English
Why you can’t translate Persian sentence to English word by word
Persian usually puts the verb at the end: من نامه را نوشتم (man name ra neveshtam) is word for word “I letter rā wrote”, while English needs “I wrote the letter.” The marker را flags a specific direct object and has no English word of its own, so the English clause has to be rebuilt rather than copied in the same order.
One pronoun for he and she
Persian has no grammatical gender, and او (u) covers both “he” and “she”. When the text does not make clear who is meant, the English has to pick one, so check pronouns in the result, especially in letters and stories. Persian also has no word for “the”, so English articles are added from context.
Polite phrases that need a new English form
Persian shows respect with شما (shoma) instead of the familiar تو (to), often with plural verbs for a single person. Courtesy formulas rarely carry over literally: خسته نباشید (khaste nabashid), word for word “don’t be tired”, is closer to “thanks for your hard work” or simply a friendly greeting. Choosing Formal (business email) or Casual under Tone helps set the English register.
How do I translate Persian to English on this page?
Paste or type your Persian text into the input box, or use Dictate to speak it, then run the translation. The English appears next to it, and you can copy it or use Copy source + translation to keep both texts together.
Is this Farsi translator free to use?
Yes. There is no signup, no account and nothing to install; each run takes up to 5,000 characters, so split longer texts into parts.
Does it offer Farsi to English phonetic translation?
Click Show pronunciation and an approximate Finglish-style romanization of the Persian text appears under the result. It is meant as a reading aid, since Persian script usually leaves short vowels unwritten and Finglish spelling is not fully standardized.
Why does the English sometimes use “he” when the Persian meant “she”?
Persian uses one pronoun, او, for both, so the English has to guess when the context does not say. Check pronouns, names and numbers, and look at the Meaning kept: band for a hint of where to review.
Can I translate a whole Persian document?
You can open a DOCX, ODT, RTF or TXT file; the text is extracted in your browser and placed in the editor, up to 5,000 characters per run. Formatting and layout are not kept, and PDF files and images are not supported.
Is it safe to translate personal letters or official paperwork?
Your text is sent to an AI model, translated, returned and then discarded; it is not stored or used for training. This is machine translation, not a certified translation, so official documents may still need a human translator.
Can I choose between formal and casual English?
Yes. Under Tone, pick Match the original, Formal (business email) or Casual. Show alternatives also offers 2–3 other phrasings that differ in register.
Can it translate Persian text from a photo or screenshot?
No, image and photo translation are not available. Type or paste the text, open it from a supported file, or dictate it with the microphone.
Can I translate from English back into Persian?
Yes. Click Swap languages to reverse the direction while keeping your text, and use Read aloud to hear the result.
