Translating Russian to English: what to know

Aspect Pairs Need English Tense Context

Russian verbs come in perfective/imperfective pairs (делать/сделать), but English uses tense and context instead. Perfective often maps to simple past or future, while imperfective suggests ongoing or habitual action. Don't translate aspect mechanically—consider whether the English sentence needs progressive forms, "used to," or simple tenses based on the surrounding narrative timeframe and completion status.

Articles Required Despite Russian Omission

Russian has no articles, but English requires "a," "an," or "the" before most nouns. Translators must infer definiteness from context: previously mentioned items or unique referents take "the," while new or non-specific items take "a/an." Omitting articles produces broken English. Pay attention to Russian demonstratives (этот, тот) and possessives as clues for definiteness.

Case Endings Become Word Order

Russian uses six grammatical cases with flexible word order, while English relies on strict Subject-Verb-Object positioning. The accusative or dative case in Russian shows the object or recipient, but in English you must place these after the verb in the correct sequence. Misplacing elements creates confusion: "Мне книгу дал Иван" must become "Ivan gave me the book," not a word-for-word rendering.

Is my text stored anywhere?

No. Text is sent to the AI model, translated, and returned — processed, never stored. No copies, no content logs, no training use.

How accurate is the translation?

Modern AI translation is strong for everyday and business text between the 38 supported languages. For legal, medical, or safety-critical content, have a professional review the result.

Which languages are supported?

38 languages, in any direction — pick source and target above the editor. Popular pairs also have their own pages, like English to Spanish.

What does the “Meaning kept” score mean?

After each translation, a second AI check compares the original and the translation and scores how closely the meaning survived (100 = same meaning). Below 90 you'll see a warning — double-check names, numbers and negations. The check processes your text and immediately discards it; only the score is kept.
