Translating English to Turkish: what to know

Turkish Uses Agglutination, Not Prepositions

Turkish adds suffixes to words instead of using separate prepositions like English. "In the house" becomes "evde" (ev + de). "To the school" is "okula" (okul + a). Multiple suffixes stack in fixed order: "evlerimizde" means "in our houses." Each suffix has vowel harmony variants, so the same grammatical meaning uses different vowels depending on the root word. This fundamentally changes sentence structure compared to English prepositional phrases.

Subject-Object-Verb Word Order Required

Turkish follows strict SOV order, placing verbs at sentence end, unlike English SVO. "I am reading a book" becomes "Ben bir kitap okuyorum" (I a book am-reading). Questions, negations, and tense markers attach as suffixes to the final verb. While subjects can be dropped when clear from context, the verb-final position remains mandatory. Subordinate clauses also precede main clauses, creating structures that feel backwards to English speakers.

No Articles or Grammatical Gender

Turkish has no equivalents for "a," "an," or "the." Context and word order indicate definiteness. "Bir" means "one" but sometimes approximates "a/an." There's no grammatical gender—"o" means he, she, or it. Adjectives never change form. English sentences requiring gender agreement or article choice translate more simply, but English speakers must learn when "bir" is needed versus bare nouns for generic or definite references.

How accurate is the translation?

Modern AI translation is strong for everyday and business text between the 38 supported languages. For legal, medical, or safety-critical content, have a professional review the result.

38 languages, in any direction — pick source and target above the editor. Popular pairs also have their own pages, like English to Spanish.

What does the “Meaning kept” score mean?

After each translation, a second AI check compares the original and the translation and scores how closely the meaning survived (100 = same meaning). Below 90 you'll see a warning — double-check names, numbers and negations. The check processes your text and immediately discards it; only the score is kept.
