Translating English to Persian: what to know

Right-to-Left Script and Word Order

Persian uses Arabic script written right-to-left, but word order is Subject-Object-Verb, unlike English's Subject-Verb-Object. The verb typically comes at the end of sentences. For example, 'I eat bread' becomes 'man nān mikharam' (literally 'I bread eat'). Adjectives usually follow nouns, opposite to English, so 'red car' becomes 'māshin-e ghermez' (car-of red).

No Articles or Grammatical Gender

Persian has no definite or indefinite articles like 'the' or 'a/an'. Context determines definiteness. There is also no grammatical gender—pronouns and verb forms don't change based on masculine or feminine subjects. The pronoun 'u' means he, she, or it. This simplifies some aspects but requires careful context management when translating from English to maintain clarity about which specific person or thing is referenced.

Formal Versus Informal Address Forms

Persian distinguishes between formal and informal second-person pronouns. 'To' is informal singular (like French 'tu'), while 'shomā' is formal/plural (like 'vous'). Verb conjugations change accordingly. Using the wrong form can be disrespectful or overly distant. In professional, business, or respectful contexts, always use 'shomā'. The choice significantly affects tone and appropriateness, unlike English's universal 'you'.

Modern AI translation is strong for everyday and business text between the 44 supported languages. For legal, medical, or safety-critical content, have a professional review the result.

What does the confidence band under the translation mean?

After each translation, a second AI check compares the original and the translation and shows a confidence band: High confidence, Review changes, or Meaning may have changed. It's a model estimate, not a guarantee — whatever the band says, double-check names, numbers and negations in the translation. The raw judge score appears as secondary detail in the “Why?” explanation, labeled as an estimate. The check processes your text and immediately discards it; only the score is kept.
