Translating English to Arabic: what to know

Right-to-Left Script and Word Order

Arabic is written right-to-left, which affects text layout and punctuation placement. Standard Arabic follows VSO (Verb-Subject-Object) order in formal contexts, though SVO is common in Modern Standard Arabic and dialects. Adjectives follow nouns they modify and must agree in gender, number, case, and definiteness. English compound nouns often reverse in Arabic: "car door" becomes "door [of] the car."

Grammatical Gender Affects Everything

Every Arabic noun has grammatical gender (masculine or feminine), unlike English. This gender agreement extends to verbs, adjectives, pronouns, and even plural forms. The word "you" has six different forms depending on gender and number. Inanimate plural nouns typically take feminine singular agreement. Translating English sentences requires determining gender for all nouns, which may not be obvious from context alone.

Dual Number and Plural Complexity

Arabic has three numbers: singular, dual (exactly two), and plural (three or more). English "two books" requires the dual form in Arabic, not plural. Arabic plurals are complex: sound plurals add suffixes, but most common nouns use irregular broken plurals with internal vowel changes. Verbs, adjectives, and pronouns must match these forms. Additionally, formal Arabic distinguishes masculine and feminine plurals for human referents.

Can it translate into Iraqi Arabic?

Yes. Open Options and pick the Arabic variety — Iraqi, Levantine or Egyptian — instead of Modern Standard Arabic, then translate. The choice is remembered on your device.

Is my text stored anywhere?

No. Text is sent to the AI model, translated, and returned — processed, never stored. No copies, no content logs, no training use.

How accurate is the translation?

Modern AI translation is strong for everyday and business text between the 44 supported languages. For legal, medical, or safety-critical content, have a professional review the result.

Which languages are supported?

44 languages, in any direction — pick source and target above the editor. Popular pairs also have their own pages, like English to Spanish.

What does the confidence band under the translation mean?

After each translation, a second AI check compares the original and the translation and shows a confidence band: High confidence, Review changes, or Meaning may have changed. It's a model estimate, not a guarantee — whatever the band says, double-check names, numbers and negations in the translation. The raw judge score appears as secondary detail in the “Why?” explanation, labeled as an estimate. The check processes your text and immediately discards it; only the score is kept.
