Free Thai to English Translation with Romanization

For travelers, students and anyone translating chats, menus or paperwork from Thailand to English. Thai writes words together without spaces and often leaves tense, number and even the subject to context, so the English has to spell out what the Thai only implies.

What makes Thai English translation tricky

Words run together without spaces

Thai script usually writes the words of a sentence together without spaces between them. A space more often marks the end of a phrase or sentence, a job that periods do in English. For example, ขอบคุณมาก (khopkhun mak, “thank you very much”) is two words, ขอบคุณ and มาก, written as one unbroken string.

Tense and plurals come from context

Thai verbs do not change form. Words like แล้ว (laeo) for something finished or จะ (cha) for the future are optional, so ฉันกินข้าว (chan kin khao) can mean “I eat” or “I ate.” Nouns usually carry no plural marking either, which means the English version often has to choose a tense and a number that the Thai leaves open.

Polite particles have no English word

Speakers often end sentences with ครับ (khrap) if they are male or ค่ะ (kha) if they are female. These particles signal politeness but don't translate as a single word. English shows the same courtesy through words like please or could you, which is why the Tone setting matters.

Buddhist Era years

Thai dates often use the Buddhist Era, which is 543 years ahead of the Western calendar: 2567 BE is 2024. Thai digits such as ๒๕๖๗ also appear, so double-check years and numbers in the English.

How can I translate Thai text to English?

Type or paste the Thai into the input box, or use Dictate to speak it, then run the translation. The English appears on the right, and you can click Show pronunciation or Show alternatives under the result.

Why does the English sometimes add a tense or a pronoun that the Thai left out?

Thai often drops the subject and doesn't mark tense on the verb, so English has to supply both. If the context is unclear, check that the chosen tense and pronoun match what you meant.

Is there a length limit when I translate from Thai to English?

Each run takes up to 5,000 characters, so split longer texts into parts. You can also open a DOCX, ODT, RTF or TXT file. The text is extracted in your browser, but the formatting isn't kept, and PDFs and images aren't supported.

Is it safe to paste private messages or work emails written in Thai?

Your text is sent to an AI model, translated, returned and then discarded. It isn't stored or used for training.

Can I see how the Thai words are pronounced?

Click Show pronunciation to see an approximate RTGS-style romanization of the Thai under the result. RTGS doesn't mark Thai tones, so treat it as a rough guide. Read aloud plays the translation with a browser voice.

Can I translate Thai to English in a formal or casual tone?

Yes. Under Tone, pick Formal (business email), Casual or Match the original. This matters because politeness carried by ครับ or ค่ะ in Thai has to be expressed with different wording in English.

Can I switch the direction to English to Thai?

Click Swap languages to reverse the direction. Your text stays in the box.

Can I translate a photo of a Thai sign or menu?

No, the tool doesn't read photos or images. You can type the Thai, paste it, or use Dictate to say it aloud.

How do I know if the English still means what the Thai said?

After each translation, a second AI check compares the two texts and shows a band next to Meaning kept: High confidence, Review changes or Meaning may have changed. It is an estimate, so still check names, numbers and negations yourself.
