Translating Chinese to English: what to know
No Plural Markers in Chinese
Chinese nouns lack plural suffixes like English '-s'. Context determines singular or plural meaning. When translating, carefully assess whether the English noun should be singular or plural based on surrounding words like numbers, quantifiers, or contextual clues. A bare noun like '书' could mean 'book' or 'books' depending on the sentence.
Measure Words Don't Transfer Directly
Chinese requires measure words between numbers and nouns (三本书 = three [volumes] books), but English typically doesn't. Translate the quantity directly without the classifier in most cases: '三本书' becomes 'three books', not 'three volumes of books', unless the measure word carries specific meaning like '一杯茶' (a cup of tea).
Topic-Comment Structure vs Subject-Verb
Chinese often uses topic-comment order where the topic appears first, while English requires subject-verb-object structure. The sentence '这个电影我看过' literally reads 'this movie I watched', but natural English requires reordering: 'I've watched this movie' or 'I've seen this movie'. Restructure sentences to match English grammatical expectations while preserving meaning.
Names and Titles Need a Human Pass — and the Script Stays Simplified
Chinese personal names travel surname-first (王伟 = Wang Wei) and job titles attach to the surname (王经理, 'Manager Wang') — a machine translation may reorder the name, drop the title, or render it stiffly ('Manager Wang' vs the natural 'Mr. Wang'). Dates and numbers also switch conventions (年/月/日 order, 万 = 10,000). After translating, check that people are named the way they'd introduce themselves in English and that quantities using 万/亿 converted correctly. This tool translates the text you paste; it does not convert between Simplified and Traditional Chinese — paste the script you actually use.

Modern AI translation is strong for everyday and business text between the 44 supported languages. For legal, medical, or safety-critical content, have a professional review the result.
Which languages are supported?
44 languages, in any direction — pick source and target above the editor. Popular pairs also have their own pages, like English to Spanish.
What does the confidence band under the translation mean?
After each translation, a second AI check compares the original and the translation and shows a confidence band: High confidence, Review changes, or Meaning may have changed. It's a model estimate, not a guarantee — whatever the band says, double-check names, numbers and negations in the translation. The raw judge score appears as secondary detail in the “Why?” explanation, labeled as an estimate. The check processes your text and immediately discards it; only the score is kept.
