Translating English to Ukrainian: what to know
Aspect Pairs Are Mandatory
Ukrainian verbs come in perfective/imperfective pairs, unlike English. "I read" can be "я читаю" (imperfective, ongoing) or "я прочитаю" (perfective, completed). English simple tenses don't map one-to-one. Choosing wrong aspect changes meaning: "писати" implies process, "написати" implies completion. Context determines which aspect fits, not just English tense.
No Articles, Case Endings Instead
Ukrainian has no articles like "a" or "the." Definiteness shows through word order and context. However, Ukrainian uses seven grammatical cases with noun/adjective endings that change based on function. "The book" as subject is "книга," as direct object "книгу," with prepositions other cases apply. English prepositions often become Ukrainian case endings without separate words.
Formal 'You' Requires Plural Forms
Ukrainian distinguishes informal "ти" (singular you) from formal/plural "ви." Formal address uses "ви" even for one person, with plural verb forms: "ви є" not "ти є." This applies to strangers, elders, professional contexts. English "you" gives no clue which to use. Choosing wrong form sounds either too familiar or artificially distant in Ukrainian culture.
Review Names, Case and Address in the Ukrainian Output
Ukrainian declines names and nouns for case, so 'for Oksana' becomes для Оксани and a name may look 'changed' when it is simply inflected — while a machine translation can also genuinely garble transliterated names. Address matters too: the formal plural Ви is expected in work and official messages. After translating into English-to-Ukrainian, check that names survived intact in the right case, that the message uses the register you intended, and read the Cyrillic output yourself or with a native reader before sending anything important — this tool does not certify pronunciation, transliteration or official wording.

What does the confidence band under the translation mean?
After each translation, a second AI check compares the original and the translation and shows a confidence band: High confidence, Review changes, or Meaning may have changed. It's a model estimate, not a guarantee — whatever the band says, double-check names, numbers and negations in the translation. The raw judge score appears as secondary detail in the “Why?” explanation, labeled as an estimate. The check processes your text and immediately discards it; only the score is kept.
