Translating English to Danish: what to know
Word Order in Subordinate Clauses
Danish subordinate clauses require inverted word order compared to English. The verb moves after negations and adverbs in dependent clauses. For example, 'I know that he doesn't speak' becomes 'Jeg ved, at han ikke taler' (literally 'that he not speaks'). This inversion applies to all subordinate clauses introduced by conjunctions like 'at', 'fordi', 'hvis', and relative pronouns. Main clauses follow V2 rule with verb in second position.
Definite Articles Attached as Suffixes
Danish adds definite articles as suffixes to nouns rather than separate words. 'The house' becomes 'huset' (hus + -et), 'the car' becomes 'bilen' (bil + -en). Common-gender nouns take -en/-n, neuter nouns take -et/-t. When adjectives precede the noun, Danish uses both the free-standing article 'den/det/de' AND often the suffix: 'the red house' is 'det røde hus' (no suffix here, but 'the big one' is 'den store').
Modal Verbs Without 'To' Infinitive
Danish modal verbs like 'kan' (can), 'vil' (will), 'skal' (shall/must), 'må' (may/must) are followed directly by the infinitive without any equivalent of 'to'. English 'I want to go' becomes 'Jeg vil gå', not 'Jeg vil at gå'. The infinitive marker 'at' exists in Danish but is used differently, primarily after non-modal verbs: 'I try to understand' is 'Jeg prøver at forstå'.

What does the confidence band under the translation mean?
After each translation, a second AI check compares the original and the translation and shows a confidence band: High confidence, Review changes, or Meaning may have changed. It's a model estimate, not a guarantee — whatever the band says, double-check names, numbers and negations in the translation. The raw judge score appears as secondary detail in the “Why?” explanation, labeled as an estimate. The check processes your text and immediately discards it; only the score is kept.
